The small gains made by XV, III and II Corps were negated by their losses and the heavy losses of the Anzac Corps.

XV Corps The 5th Division made a gain of about 500yds on a front of 300yds to the west of the village. The 51st Division attacked at 0920hrs after a heavy bombardment. Their objective was a strong point on th edge of High Wood. They were thrown back by machine gun fire.
III Corps. The 23rd Division troops attacked overnight. They made considerable gains and at 0530 hrs they were 25yds from the main German communication trench system.
Anzac Corps. The 2nd Australian Division attacked at 0015hrs over running their first objective but then being driven back to their starting point with heavy losses.
II Corps. The 12th division attempted to capture the trench to their front but were held have gained a narrow salient.
