Summary

The assault on the town was carried out by one arm of what was meant to be a two pronged attack. The other prong, another 2,500 men got lost. The Austrian guns opened up the Novi gate [north gate] and the Austrian column came in from the south. The Neapolitans already low morale crumbled further. Not figures are available for Neapolitan killed and wounded only those captured are recorded.
